Enjoying Kalkan

There’s plenty to see and do in Kalkan – if you can tear yourself away from the comforts of Villa Yaz for a few hours (not an easy task!)

Kalamar Beach Club

It only takes a few minutes to walk the 300 metres from Villa Yaz to the Kalamar Beach Club – where you can relax on the sun terraces, or enjoy a delicious meal in the small, friendly restaurant. If you’re feeling more energetic, you can try out a whole range of water sports there, too.

(The beach club also offers wireless internet access.)

Kalkan

Kalkan is a pretty village nestling on the edge of the Toros Mountains – and it’s just a fifteen minute stroll from Villa Yaz (and a five minute taxi ride home after an evening out).

Wander down the cobbled streets to the harbour, enjoying the unspoilt character lent by their picturesque whitewashed houses. Meander through Old Kalkan (pictured right), the historic heart of the town. Pick up some unique souvenirs and wonderful bargains in the shops dotted around the delightful maze of backstreets. Or try out a few of the many wonderful restaurants – which offer a wide variety of dishes. Many of these are situated on rooftops, with stunning views.

You’ll want to return home with plenty of souvenirs from your stay in Kalkan, and you’ll have plenty of chances to buy these. Many shops are open until midnight, so you can lounge in the sun during the day and browse and buy all evening. The local market is on Thursdays.

Places to Visit

If you fancy venturing further afield, you can visit some places of outstanding natural beauty and historical interest. These include Kaputus Beach (pictured to the right), Lycian Way, Saklikent Gorge (below), Kekova sunken city (below), Tlos, Xanthos (theatre below), Letoon, Pinara and, to the west, the magnificent Patara beach (below) with its sparkling golden sand that seems to stretch on forever…

Take a drive up into the mountains and explore the lush, unspoilt scenery. Wander past lakes and streams, and stop for a feast of fresh trout in the peaceful surroundings. You’ll realise that you’re in a world untouched by mass tourism, dotted with beautiful villages where the warm traditions and hospitable customs of the past are still maintained.

Practicalities

You’ll find numerous supermarkets in Kalkan, stocked with a full range of delicious Mediterranean foods. Kalkan has a post office and several banks with cash machines: credit cards and pounds sterling are accepted in many shops and restaurants, as well as Turkish lira.
